SALAR DE UYUNI
For more than 3,600
meters high salt crust is the largest in the world, the Salar de Uyuni.
The area of over 11,000 km2, offers the visitor a landscape indescribable, where this white desert appears
to extend to infinity.
Places to visit:
Colchani, where population is processed salt is extracted from the Salar with traditional methods,
is located 21 Km. de Uyuni.
Incahuasi island, which is located in the middle of the Salar de Uyuni, in the native language
Quechua Incahuasi means "House of the Inca." This island serves as a habitat for thousands
of giant cactus that grows one centimeter a year to become giants of over 10 meters tall, some have more
than 1,200 years.
Tunupa volcano, 5,400 meters above sea level shows a view of the northern part of the Salar.
It is considered an extinct volcano deity for the villagers.
Nearby are the towns of Tahu Jirirña, Coquesa Aiquile and they are very old and typically Andes.
Eduardo Avaroa Nature Reserve, south of Salt, where they will find loopholes remarkable for its
fantastic color and beauty.
Laguna Colorada, habitat 3 of the 5 species of flamingos in the world. The presence of more than
30,000 birds is the product of the ideal conditions both in climate and food, provided by the red algae.
Other natural phenomena that can be found are the Desert Dalí, the Valley of the Rocks, volcanoes
such as the Volcano Llicancahur that is reflected in the emerald green waters of Laguna Verde.
